Renewable energy cannibalism
Today, El Confidencial published an Opinion Piece signed by Javier Olmos, Head of the Energy Area, in which he analyses the recent trends in electricity prices resulting from the increase in renewable generation and a slight decrease in demand, highlighting that, although beneficial for consumers, it poses challenges for the profitability of renewable projects.
It also underlines the fact that, despite being a cyclical situation, the sustainability of these projects is expected to continue with appropriate support measures and strategic decisions such as the phasing out of nuclear generation and the promotion of green hydrogen.
